Scenario 2: Medium Single Site

The diagram below illustrates some of the connection possibilites for a larger, single-site setup. The configuration shown below could typically handle up to 20 simultaneous calls via 4 bonded ADSL Max lines, or 48 simultaneous calls via 4 bonded ADSL2+ lines (less if sharing the bandwidth with other applications and dependent on the distance to the local exchange).

In this scenario up to 4 ADSL connections can be bonded at the router to carry voice and data traffic.

Phones can be a mix of hardware IP phones and/or software phones running on a PC. Legacy analogue phones can also connect via an ATA.

A wireless laptop can also be used where no existing telephone or data wiring currently exists.

Organisations adopting this configuration can consolidate their voice and data traffic through bonded ADSL lines. Any surplus analogue/ISDN lines can be retired to achieve a significant cost saving. This configuration provides easy scalability to add new extensions, redundancy should a given ISP go down, QoS routing of voice traffic, and load balancing across links.

The analogue lines associated with the ADSL connections can be utilised as emergency telephone backups should the Internet connection go down, or used with traditional fax machines.
